I Can't Believe I am Still Here (Today)

I am laughing today, but surely I thought I was dying yesterday!

I’ve been wanting to write a blog like this, but I wasn’t sure I’d be here.

Do you ever have those days where you have a pain in your head, or your hip, or your gut and you think, this is it, it’s over. I knew I was dying and today is my day. Or in my case, when my heart is racing and my palms are sweating and I wonder what the heck is going on. It reminds me of the old show Sanford and Son when Red Fox, the main character would yell out in every show, while holding his heart “I’m coming to meet you, Betsy! This is it!” (It usually happened when something funny was happening and his son was driving him crazy.)

Well, this happens all the time to me, as I think it must be over. But by the time the sun rises, I laugh because I made it another day. Whatever ailment I have did not get me yet! And when my son or daughter call and tell me that something was happening to them, I laugh and say, “I can’t believe you’re still here!” You know, I am going to start a blog, so that we can write about how we almost die every day, and then we can laugh about it.

I’ll bet that it’s not just the three of us who have this affliction – there might be more of us who believe daily that today might just be the day – to cross over into the light – and who are relieved and laugh at themselves the next day.

So if you want to write your story, let me know. I’ll add you in as an author. For now, enjoy the tales of near death normal experiences, and please take them all with a laugh, because we do. And as we research how to calm ourselves down, how to to bring sanity to our mortality nightly (and daily), we’ll share them here. I’ll bet we have a lot of wisdom to share, which we conveniently forget every night. Heck, if we didn’t, it wouldn’t be very funny.

Here’s to making it though until tomorrow…
